Beating cervical cancer
It is recommended that the vaccination is given at 12 to 13 years of age to protect girls as early as possible, therefore the vaccination will be routinely given to Year 9 girls in school.

Smear tests
Smear tests (cervical screening) will continue to be essential to detect changes in the cervix caused by the types of HPV that this vaccine does not protect against. From the age of 25 women will be invited for cervical screening as normal.
